Chrys Saldanha is always proud to say that he has been with Don Bosco almost the whole of his life as he did all his schooling in Don Bosco High School, Matunga, Mumbai from the age of five and a half. Thereafter, the eight years of his early Salesian formation – from the prenovitiate to practical training – were spent in Tamil Nadu. Sent to Rome in 1966, he obtained his Baccalaureate and Licentiate in Theology at the Salesian Pontifical University, and on his return to India, taught Theology at Kristu Jyoti College, Bangalore. Later, he did his doctoral studies at Maynooth, Ireland. From 1982 to 1988 he was Provincial of Mumbai, which at that time included the Delegation of East Africa comprising Kenya, Tanzania and Sudan. In 1990, he founded and directed the Don Bosco Renewal Centre, Bangalore. For the past 17 years he has been a member of the Formation Department of the Salesian Congregation in Rome; much of his work of animation takes the form of meetings, courses and retreats in various parts of the world.
