George Plathottam has three Master’s degrees and a PhD with specialization in communications, journalism, sociology and theology. He is member of several academic panels and consultative boards on media, and is recognized nationally and internationally for his writings and lectures. He teaches journalism and communication in several reputed institutions, and is currently the Director of National Institute of Social Communications Research and Training (NISCORT) and Secretary, Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI) Office for Social Communications, New Delhi. He was formerly Director, Department of Mass Media, St. Anthony’s College, Shillong. In 1992, he was conferred the prestigious North-South Friendship Prize by UCIP and the Press-Information Dept of the Government of Germany.
